Announced in November 2023 and officially breaking ground on December 2, 2024, Port KC is building mixed-use building on 1818 Main St. with 147 residential units, including 54 studios, 87 one bedroom, and 6 two-bedroom. The building will be called The Refinery and will hold approximately 1,000 square feet of ground-level commercial space. In a strong commitment to housing equity, the $36 million development is supported by Port KC through bond financing that is not to exceed $36 million. 10% of the residential units will be reserved for households earning up to 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI), advancing Kansas City’s goals for inclusive and affordable urban living.
Complementing the residential offering is 1,000 square feet of ground-level commercial space, designed to foster local retail, dining, or service-based tenants. The project also includes a four-story structured parking garage with 113 spaces, providing essential convenience for residents and patrons alike.
With a scheduled completion in late 2026, The Refinery is set to become a landmark project in the Crossroads and Downtown corridor. Its blend of housing, affordability, and street-level activation makes it a key piece of the city’s broader economic development and urban revitalization strategy.
