Board of trade building

Opened in 2015, Port KC worked on the revitalization of the historic Board of Trade Building on the Plaza through the issuance of $33 million in privately backed conduit bonds and the establishment of Port Improvement District (PID) #3. This targeted investment is designed to modernize critical infrastructure, enhance streetscapes, and support long-term building maintenance ensuring the continued viability and vibrancy of this iconic property. 

This project plays a key role in securing the headquarters of Populous, a global leader in sports and entertainment architecture, anchoring their presence in Kansas City. 

The conduit bond structure allows Port KC to provide property and sales tax exemptions to projects that demonstrate clear economic impact and financial need. In this case, those tools are being leveraged to retain a major employer and catalyze additional investment in the surrounding area.
