Port KC & KC Current reimaging Berkley Riverfront

Kansas City, MO. –  Today, the KC Current and Port KC reveal the master plan for Berkley Riverfront, returning the Missouri Riverfront to its rightful place as an essential part of KC’s landscape and future.

Port KC has methodically molded and planned how to reconnect Kansas City to its roots on the Missouri River. For decades, leaders knew the importance and potential Berkley Riverfront could have on the Kansas City economy, but this reconnection also has a historical and meaningful importance, too.

We found a private partner who could see our vision for this transformative project in Chris and Angie Long and their KC Current team. We announced that we would enter a three-phase, 10-year deal worth $800 million to transform approximately 10.7 acres into a mixed-use, high-density, walkable neighborhood in July 2023. The 200 million+ gross square footage development will include local restaurants, retail, and office space. Additionally, we will gain a riverfront promenade, a town square, and two-plus acres of community and gathering space all within a design dedicated to a pedestrian-friendly experience.

“Berkley Riverfront will be a legacy project for Port KC. We were tasked with bringing the Missouri Riverfront back into the economic and historical fold for Kansas City. When the KC Current masterplan is completed, Kansas Citians will have a new opportunity to reintroduce themselves to one of the most important and natural pieces of our history and our future,” Jon Stephans, Port KC CEO & President.

Phase I of the development is expected to start at the end of 2024 and will be completed by the FIFA World Cup in 2026. The KCATA Streetcar construction should also wrap up by early 2026 kicking off a true multimodial experience by the river. This project will include affordable housing, it adds to the new revenue for local taxing jurisdictions.

This project is anchored by the KC Current’s historic CPKC Stadium and joins other upcoming projects like the Two Birds, One Stone Beer Garden and the Origin Hotel which are expected to open this summer.  Berkley Riverfront will become a world-renown location for visitors and residents.

Port KC remains dedicated and focused on finding more connections for Kansas Citians to enjoy the benefits of a such a natural gem as the Missouri River. Stay tuned.
